Providing only roof length, width, and LED count is insufficient when requesting quotes for starry sky roof FPC customization. Roof curvature, sunroof location, panel joining method, LED coordinates, power distribution zones, connectors, and assembly processes all impact design. This article presents a ready-to-use customer requirements checklist.
Why roof length, width, and LED count alone are insufficient for quotation
Starry sky roof FPCs must conform precisely to the actual vehicle roof surface and interface with sunroofs, clips, foam pads, light-diffusing layers, and harnesses. Identical roof dimensions may require entirely different FPC structures and interfaces due to variations in curvature, joining method, and installation orientation. The more complete the input data, the earlier Hongyi Precision can identify risks before tooling and prototyping.
Vehicle Model and Structural Data
- Roof or headliner 3D CAD data, effective mounting area, and surface curvature.
- No-go zones including sunroof openings, clip locations, screw bosses, foam pad areas, and reinforcing ribs.
- Primary datum references, mounting orientation, assembly sequence, and service access space.
- Permitted number of panels, preferred joining methods (e.g., butt joint, overlap), and standard size preferences.
LED and Optical Data
LED part numbers, quantities, X-Y-Z coordinates, power rating, CCT or RGB control method, and requirements for luminance uniformity, star-point density, and seam visibility. For dynamic effects or zone-based control, provide channel grouping and control logic. LED coordinate data should use the same coordinate system as the vehicle structural model.
Electrical and Interface Data
Specified input voltage, maximum current, control protocol, connector part number, pinout definition, mating direction, and harness routing location. For long-distance power delivery, define allowable voltage drop and power zoning strategy; for high-speed or communication signals, specify impedance and routing requirements.
Material and Environmental Requirements
Operating temperature range, thermal cycling profile, vibration profile, flame retardancy class, material system (e.g., polyimide), surface finish, and expected service life. If SMT assembly or component-integrated delivery is required, provide BOM, pick-and-place coordinates, stencil specifications, reflow profile, and test conditions.
A Complete Acceptance Standard
- Circuit continuity, resistance, insulation resistance, illumination functionality, and control responsiveness.
- Outline dimensions, datum hole locations, LED coordinates, connector positions, and panel joining dimensions.
- Panel flatness, curved-surface conformity, mechanical interference during installation, and cosmetic appearance.
- Luminance uniformity, dead pixel count, chromaticity deviation, and seam visibility after panel joining.
- Electrical and optical performance after thermal cycling, vibration testing, and aging.
Hongyi Precision can match vehicle structures with standard panel sizes such as 250×1550 mm and 500×1550 mm, or develop custom segmentation solutions. Customers preparing data using this checklist will significantly reduce information back-and-forth and avoid unnecessary revision cycles.
